Fibro Active Long Eaton and Ilkeston support groups for people with Fibromyalgia (FM) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and their carers. It is a positive and inclusive group that focuses on healthy lifestyle, light exercise, support and sharing information as well as educating members about their condition and help them move forward with their acceptance and management of the illness.

It is estimated that 1 in 20 people suffer from FM and/or CFS. It is a syndrome of chronic symptoms including: Wide spread chronic pain, chronic fatigue, IBS, Fibro Fog/ cognitive dysfunction and chronic migraines. It is more common in woman who are mainly diagnosed in their 30’s and 40’s.

In 2013 our own Volunteer Coordinator, Julie Barker was diagnosed after years of battling poor health. Her Dad also suffered chronically for over 30 years, sadly passed away in 2014. This left Julie isolated and alone with her illness as she didn’t know anyone else who had it.

With the help of Kev Hatton at Active Erewash, Julie started what she thought would be a small support group in Long Eaton. However, it soon became apparent that there were many more sufferers out there and today there are over 220 local members in the group and due to demand a second branch was started in Ilkeston. The group is a non-profit making, unincorporated organisation. The closed Facebook group page averages 20 new members a month.
